Botox Q & A
What is Botox?
Botulinum toxin (Type A) is a natural, purified protein that relaxes your facial muscles to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines. Small doses of the protein, which is commonly referred to as Botox, are injected through tiny needles at specific points in your facial anatomy. The treatments help lessen the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, the kind that are caused by your everyday facial expressions.
Botox is technically a neurotoxin, in that it works by blocking the nerve signals that cause your facial muscles to contract, leaving your skin looking naturally smoother.
Which products does Dr. Kwolek offer?
Although the term Botox is commonly used to describe all cosmetic injectables made with botulinum toxin, there are several different products available, each with varying formulations, potency, and approved dosages. Dr. Kwolek provides only the safest and most effective products, including:
Botox® Cosmetic — As one of the most effective cosmetic tools for temporary wrinkle reduction, Botox Cosmetic is approved for use to help improve the appearance of angry 11s, the the deep furrows between your eyebrows, and crow’s feet, the tiny smile lines at the corners of your eyes.
What can I expect from the procedure?
Dr. Kwolek can generally perform Botox treatments on the same day as your initial consultation and evaluation. After discussing your goals, she’ll recommend a product, prepare the injection, and let you know exactly what you can expect during the procedure.
Because the injections are relatively painless, the treatment is typically performed without anesthesia. The treatment itself takes about 10 minutes, and most patients get the results they’re looking for by having a few small injections across the specific treatment area. Side effects may include minor swelling and slight redness, both of which are usually short-lived.
When will I see results, and how long will they last?
Most patients begin to see smoother skin within 24-48 hours of treatment. Although individual results vary, results typically last for about 3-4 months.
